Petroleum is used in a number of processes that are vital to today’s society. However, the most common use for petroleum is keeping the engines of boats, planes, and vehicles pumping. The global use of fossil fuels has a massive impact on the health of the planet, and there is no doubt that the need to transport people and goods across long distances won’t become obsolete anytime soon. Gasoline may have been the best fuel for transportation in the past, but advancements in technology have opened the door to a new type of energy source.

Biofuel—The Clean Resource

Biofuel is a clean-burning, efficient, low-toxic alternative to traditional gasoline. This type of fuel is derived from biomass (plant materials and animal fats) which is easy and cheap to procure. Rather than importing a large chunk of petroleum, an entire supply of biofuel can be produced within a country’s own borders. The entire system of extracting oil from the ground and transporting it across the world is much more cumbersome. If more people used biofuel around the world, then a large number of pollutants would be prevented from damaging the atmosphere.

Reducing Emissions

The main reason that biofuel is helpful for the environment is that the plants used to make it actually reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This means that biofuel has similar emissions to regular fuel yet still has a positive effect on overall air quality. In other words, the ingredients that are used to create biofuel are beneficial to the atmosphere. The small explosions used to power engines will always create waste materials that pollute the environment; however, until a radically new energy source is found, biofuel can offset the negative aspects of combustion through its inherent form of production.

It’s important to note that biofuel isn’t just a less harmful version of other fuels—it actually has a healing effect on air quality. Compared to the incredibly deadly effects that gasoline has on all living things, it should be apparent that biofuel is a much cleaner option for people in any situation. In a world of fossil fuels and their dangerous exhausts, biofuel is the best choice for someone that wants to protect the environment.
